Using This Preset Well

This wheel picks a hands-on STEM challenge. The default eight are Bridge building, Egg drop, Coding puzzle, Robot challenge, Paper airplane, Tower build, Circuit project, and Math puzzle. Four of them run on cheap materials, such as paper, straws, tape, and spaghetti, and can be set up in ten minutes. Two need kits: Robot challenge and Circuit project depend on whatever robotics or electronics equipment your school has. The wheel suits a weekly maker club or STEM afternoon where the teacher has a bank of challenges and wants the order to be a surprise. Spin at the end of one session so students can think about the next one, or spin at the start and hand out materials straight away. Running it as a competition between tables works well: same challenge, same materials, 30 minutes, then test.

Setup checklist

  • Remove Robot challenge and Circuit project unless you have the kits on hand that day.
  • Write a one-line goal and a materials list for each entry so the challenge can start as soon as the wheel lands.
  • Turn on Remove winner so a term-long club gets through every challenge before any repeat.

How to read the result

Each challenge has a 1 in 8 chance per spin. The result names a challenge, not a task: Tower build could mean the tallest freestanding tower from 20 sheets of paper or the strongest one from spaghetti, and the teacher decides which. The wheel does not hold instructions, judge results, or keep scores between tables.

Limits

The wheel cannot check materials, space, or time, and it does not know which challenges the club did last term. Egg drop needs a safe drop point and a floor covering, and anything involving batteries or tools needs adult supervision. Treat the list as a menu to trim before each session rather than a plan.
