Brain Break Activity Wheel
Give students a quick mental break with random activities. Spin to pick stretches, movements, or fun challenges that help students refocus and re-energize.
Perfect For
Using This Preset Well
This wheel picks a one-minute movement break. The default eight activities are 10 Jumping Jacks, Touch Your Toes, Dance for 30 Seconds, Deep Breaths, Desk Push-ups, Stretch High, Balance on One Foot, and Silent Scream. All of them can be done standing next to a desk, none need equipment, and none take longer than a minute. Teachers spin it between lessons, after a long stretch of seated work, or when the room has gone flat after lunch. Letting a student do the spinning turns the break into a small reward. A typical routine is two spins back to back: one active item, one calmer item such as Deep Breaths, so the class comes back down before the next task starts.
Setup checklist
- Remove any activity that does not fit your room. Dance for 30 Seconds is hard in a tight science lab, and Silent Scream is not for every school.
- Add a seated alternative such as Shoulder Rolls so students who cannot stand still have something to do on every spin.
- Keep a timer visible. The wheel picks the activity; it does not time it.
How to read the result
With eight activities at equal weight, each has a 1 in 8 chance and the same one can come up on consecutive days. That is fine for a brain break, but if the class is bored of jumping jacks, turn on Remove winner so every activity is used once before any repeat. The result is a suggestion for the whole class, not a prescription for each student.
Limits
The wheel cannot see who is in the room. Students with injuries, mobility differences, or medical restrictions need a substitute activity ready before the spin, not after. This is a classroom energy tool, not exercise guidance, and a teacher should stop any activity that looks unsafe for a particular student.
