Using This Preset Well

This wheel picks a small classroom reward at random. The default list has eight: Extra Recess, Homework Pass, Sticker, Class DJ, Line Leader, Treasure Box, Free Reading Time, and Choose Your Seat. Teachers usually let a student spin it after reaching a goal, such as a full week of completed homework or a class-wide behavior target, so the prize is a surprise rather than a negotiation. A typical routine is Friday afternoon: each student who met the weekly goal gets one spin, the class watches, and the result goes on a sticky note for Monday. The point of the wheel is that the teacher does not have to decide who gets what. The student earned a spin, the spin decides the prize, and the rest of the class sees that it was fair.

Setup checklist

  • Replace any prize you cannot actually deliver. Extra Recess and Homework Pass may need approval from your school before they go on the wheel.
  • Use weights if some prizes should be rarer. Setting Sticker to weight 3 and Treasure Box to weight 1 makes the sticker three times as likely.
  • Decide in advance whether a student can trade a prize they do not want, and say so before the first spin.

How to read the result

With eight prizes at equal weight, each has a 1 in 8 chance on every spin. Spins are independent, so two students in a row can land on Homework Pass, and nothing about the previous result changes the next one. If that would cause a problem, turn on Remove winner so each prize comes off the wheel until you reset it. The wheel does not record who won what, so keep your own list if prizes are redeemed later in the week.

Limits

A reward wheel motivates some students and worries others, especially if spins happen in front of the class. It cannot tell which prizes matter to which child, and it cannot check that a prize is allowed under your school policy. Treat the list as a starting point and keep the prizes small enough that landing on the cheapest one still feels like a win.

Frequently Asked Questions

What rewards work best?

Mix small instant rewards (stickers, line leader) with bigger ones (homework pass, extra recess) to keep it exciting!

Is this suitable for all grade levels?

Yes! This wheel works great for elementary, middle school, high school, and even college classrooms. You can customize the content to match your students' age and needs.

Can I project this on my classroom smartboard?

Absolutely! The wheel displays beautifully on smartboards, projectors, and interactive whiteboards. Just open it in your browser and go fullscreen for the best experience.

How can I prevent students from seeing the same result twice?

The wheel uses true randomization, so repeats can happen naturally. If you want to ensure each student is picked only once, manually remove names after each spin.
