Using This Preset Well

This wheel chooses who will be team captain. The default entries are placeholders, Captain 1 through Captain 8, and almost every teacher replaces them with student names before the first spin. Once it holds names, it is a fast and visible way to pick captains for PE teams, group projects, or a class competition. A PE teacher with 30 students who needs two captains spins twice with Remove winner on, reads out the two names, and the captains take turns choosing the rest of the teams. Because everyone saw the spin, there is no argument about favoritism.

Setup checklist

  • Delete the eight placeholder entries and add student names with Paste list, one name per line.
  • Turn on Remove winner so the second spin cannot pick the same student as the first.
  • Remove students who were captain last time if you want the role to rotate through the class over the term.

How to read the result

With names at equal weight, every student on the wheel has the same chance on the first spin. Remove winner takes the first captain off the wheel, so the second spin is an equal draw among the remaining names. The wheel does not remember previous sessions. If you want captaincy to rotate fairly across a term, keep a list of past captains and remove them before spinning.

Limits

The wheel can choose a name but cannot judge whether that student wants to be captain, is confident enough to pick teams in front of the class, or is fit to play that day. Ask before you spin, and let anyone opt out. Captain-picks-teams is also a format that leaves someone chosen last, so consider using the wheel to pick captains and then splitting the rest of the class by numbering off.
