Presentation Order Picker Wheel
No more arguing about who goes first! Spin to randomly assign presentation order.
Perfect For
Using This Preset Well
This wheel picks presentation order. The default entries are positions, First through Eighth, so it is set up for the version where each group spins to find out their slot: the first group to spin gets whatever position comes up, that position is removed, and the next group spins from what is left. Eight groups take eight spins and the whole class knows the running order in about two minutes. The other way to use it is to replace the positions with names or group names and spin once per slot, which some teachers prefer because the wheel then announces who is up rather than a number. Either way the point is that nobody chose the order, so the group that goes first cannot claim they were picked on, and the group that goes last cannot be accused of stalling.
Setup checklist
- Add Ninth, Tenth, and so on if you have more than eight presenters, or delete positions if you have fewer.
- Turn on Remove winner so a position cannot be assigned twice.
- Write the order on the board as it comes out. The wheel shows one result at a time, so the board is what the class can follow.
How to read the result
Every remaining position is equally likely on each spin. That means the group spinning first has a 1 in 8 chance of going first, and the last group to spin gets whatever position is left, which is not really a random result at all. If you want every group to have the same odds of every slot, spin for all of them yourself before the lesson and read out the list.
Limits
The wheel does not know who is absent, who has a medical appointment in period 3, or who presented first last time. Sort those exceptions out before spinning. It also cannot split a two-day presentation schedule across days for you; decide the cut-off point, then spin for the slots on each side of it.
