Science Experiment Picker Wheel
What science experiment should we do today? Spin to pick a hands-on STEM activity!
Perfect For
Using This Preset Well
This wheel picks a hands-on science activity. The default eight are Volcano, Slime Making, Crystal Growing, Egg Drop, Plant Growth, Magnet Fun, Water Cycle, and Solar System. They are the classic primary and lower-secondary activities that most teachers already have instructions for. The wheel is useful for a science club, a homeschool week, or an end-of-term Friday where the class has earned a choice but the teacher does not want a vote to drag on. Spin on Monday, gather the materials over the week, and run the activity on Friday. Some entries are quick demonstrations that fit one lesson, such as a baking soda volcano or a magnet station. Others are projects: crystal growing takes several days and plant growth takes weeks, so the spin decides what the class starts, not what it finishes that day.
Setup checklist
- Check that you have materials and space for every entry before spinning. Remove anything you cannot run this week.
- Note which entries are single-lesson demos and which are multi-day projects, and tell the class before the spin.
- Replace the defaults with activities from your own scheme of work so a spin always lands on something in the curriculum.
How to read the result
Each activity has a 1 in 8 chance per spin. The result is an activity name only; the wheel does not hold instructions, material lists, or safety notes, so keep those ready separately. Water Cycle and Solar System are model-building or demonstration topics rather than experiments with a variable, so decide in advance what the class will actually do when one of those comes up.
Limits
The wheel cannot assess risk. Slime recipes, egg drops from height, and anything involving heat or chemicals need adult supervision and your school's safety rules regardless of what the spin says. The list is also a starting point rather than a curriculum, and it does not track what the class has already done this year.
