Using This Preset Well

This wheel picks what kind of game a group plays tonight. The default eight are categories rather than titles: Board Game, Card Game, Video Game, Trivia, Party Game, Strategy Game, Cooperative Game, and Quick Game. That is deliberate. Most game nights stall not because nobody can pick a game but because nobody can agree on a type, and once the wheel has said Cooperative Game the actual choice is short. Families use it on a Friday evening when the children want a video game and the adults want cards. Friend groups with a shelf of 30 board games use it to break the habit of playing the same two. The categories also work as a first stage: spin this wheel for the type, then load a second wheel with the titles you own in that type and spin again, so the whole decision takes two spins and no debate.

Setup checklist

Remove categories the group cannot play tonight. Video Game is pointless if the console is in another house.
Replace the categories with actual titles from your shelf if you would rather skip the two-stage approach.
Give Quick Game a higher weight on a weeknight when the group has an hour, and a lower one when it has an evening.

How to read the result

Each category has a 1 in 8 chance per spin and the result is a type of game, not a specific one. Some categories overlap; a trivia game is often also a party game, so agree on what each label means for your group before spinning. Results are independent, and landing on Board Game three weeks running is chance, not a pattern. Turn on Remove winner if you want every type covered over two months.

Limits

The wheel does not know how many people are present, how old they are, how long the session is, or what games are in the cupboard. A result that suits four adults can be wrong for two adults and three young children. Decide the constraints first, trim the list to match, and use the wheel only among the options that actually work tonight.
