Using This Preset Well

This wheel picks your starter Pokemon. The default nine are the starters from the first three generations: Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle from Kanto, Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile from Johto, and Treecko, Torchic, and Mudkip from Hoenn. Later generations are not on the default list, so add them if you are playing a newer game. The wheel is for the moment at the start of a new playthrough when you already know which starter you always pick. Spin, and take whatever comes up. Players who replay the same game every year use it to force a different run each time, and people doing a randomized or Nuzlocke-style challenge often make the starter the first random decision of the run. It also settles the choice between friends starting the same game together, so they do not all end up with the same partner.

Setup checklist

Trim the list to the three starters from the game you are about to play, or leave all nine if you are choosing across a whole series.
Add starters from later generations if your game is newer than the third generation.
Turn on Remove winner when several friends spin so each of them ends up with a different starter.

How to read the result

Each Pokemon on the wheel has the same chance, so with the nine defaults the odds are 1 in 9 for any given starter and 1 in 3 for any given type. The result is a starter only; the wheel does not pick a nickname, a nature, or anything about the run that follows. A starter that is generally considered weaker in a given game is still a valid result, and playing through with it is usually the point.

Limits

The wheel is not connected to any game and cannot tell which starters are available in the version you own. The default list stops at the third generation and does not include regional forms, so it is incomplete for most recent titles. Anyone running a strict challenge should write the starter rule down before spinning so the result cannot be re-spun quietly later.
